Bitfinex has hired the law firm Steptoe & Johnson, and is threatening to take legal action against a blogger whom you all may have heard of. According to Bitfinex, the pseudonymous blogger has made false claims against the exchange. The blogger goes by the handle Bitfinex’ed and has grown in popularity through Medium, Twitter, and YouTube. Bitfinex’ed usually posts lengthy and detailed statements about the exchange, in turn being shared across the cryptocurrency community. In a statement Bitfinex said it hired Steptoe to respond to such claims with “appropriate action,” including “possible litigation” against various parties.”
Bitfinex’s decision to hire Steptoe & Johnson possesses a little irony, aligning a company that has been covered in secrecy, with one of the most prominent law firms in the cryptocurrency space. Reached by email on Monday, The individual who operates the Bitfinex’ed handle seems to not be worried about the partnership, commenting on the exchange’s ability to walk the talk, citing Bitfinex’s lawsuit against Wells Fargo, which was withdrawn in April. Bitfinex never came out to directly say who they might sue, or on what grounds, however, fingers have all been pointed to the same blogger. Bitfinex also added that those making assumptions and accusations about the exchange might be engaging in “market manipulation,” which is the exact same thing that Bitfinex’ed has accused the platform of.
